1.) Ashland City was created in 1856 as a county seat for the newly established Cheatham County. The county’s commissioners purchased the initial 50 acres (0.20 km2) of land (now the courthouse square) from James Lenox, and a temporary courthouse was erected shortly thereafter. The temporary structure was replaced by the present courthouse in 1869. Ashland City was officially incorporated in 1859

2.) The city was either named after Henry Clay’s estate Ashland or by an act of the General Assembly of Tennessee in 1859, when the city was incorporated, who were inspired by the ash trees in the area. Originally called Ashland, “City” was added to the name after the incorporation.

3.) Ashland City is home to A.O. Smith the world’s largest producer of water heaters and Trinity Marine a booming barge building plant.

4.) The best local hangout is The Riverview Restaurant which sits on the banks of the Cumberland River and caters to serious boaters as well as folks from Nashville looking for lunch during a nice day trip.

5.) The city is situated in a bottomland along the northeast bank of the Cumberland River, a few miles upstream from the river’s confluence with the Harpeth River.

6.) According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.6 square miles (25 km2), of which, 8.9 square miles (23 km2) of it is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2) of it (7.61%) is water.

7.) As of 2014, Ashland City’s population is 4,575 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of 11.53 percent.

8.) Ashland City is home to Blue Heron Cruises who, along with Captain Jim, offer a wonderful water tour along the Cumberland River.

9.) The historic Ashland Estates neighborhood behind the town’s Food Lion plays host to a locally famous Halloween street fair each October. The informal event attracts kids and parents from most of northern Cheatham County.
